Sonoma Valley Shakespeare Company is a theatre company in Sonoma, California.
The Sonoma Valley Shakespeare Company was founded by Artistic Director Aidan O’Reilly. A Sonoma native, Aidan is the first visually impaired student to receive a B.A. from the prestigious Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London, UK. After three national tours with the American Shakespeare Center, O’Reilly returned to Sonoma in 2011 to direct Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. He brought in the talents of Chad Bradford (MFA, Penn State), Sharon Combs (Los Angeles), and Jocelynn Joy Murphy (New York). All these performers have returned to Sonoma this fall for this exciting upcoming season. The Sonoma Valley Shakespeare Company will perform at The Little Theatre on the campus Sonoma Valley High School from September 13th through November 3rd of 2012.
This season, the company will provide educational workshops to the students of Sonoma Valley High School. These workshops are offered in collaboration with TSN, the Teacher Support Network, and with the help of Jane Martin, teacher at Sonoma Valley High School and General Manager of the Reduced Shakespeare Company.
Each student will have the chance to audition for the Sonoma Valley Shakespeare Company Internship Program. Up to six students will be invited to join the Intern Company and will have the opportunity to perform, understudy roles, or participate behind the scenes.
The Sonoma Valley Shakespeare Company is excited to bring professional teaching artists to Sonoma Valley High School to work alongside public high school students. With music and arts programs losing funding and support nationwide, the Sonoma Valley Shakespeare Company understands the need for creative and artistic outlets for today’s students. By working together, the SVSC hope to create a safe atmosphere for students to learn and express themselves artistically.
Tickets are $15 general admission, $10 for students and seniors.
